America’s Best Restaurants filmed an episode Thursday at The Feed Sack in Aiken.
The restaurant is being featured after it was nominated by local fans a couple of months ago.
“It means a lot to us because we’re not from Aiken,” said co-owner Greg Pierce. “We moved here a year ago and we invested our life savings to open a restaurant. And it’s been well received, and people here have been fantastic. Our customers are great.”
Co-owner Angelia Roberts said she doesn’t know who exactly nominated The Feed Sack for the show.
“We were contacted by them, and we had a meeting a couple of months ago, probably two months ago,” she said. “Said they wanted to film and do some stuff.”
America’s Best Restaurants is an online show that travels across the country to try some of the best restaurants in the U.S.
The episode will be uploaded to the Feed Sack’s Facebook page, the America’s Best Restaurants Facebook page and their YouTube channel, said the show’s host, Jacalyn Mains.
“We want to promote them and bring all the traffic to the Feed Sack,” she said.
The date that the show will be uploaded has not been announced.
As a part of the filming, several dishes from the menu were highlighted along with a selection of wine.
“We pick the ones that we make in house, like we smoke our own pork, make our own short rib and barbecue and stuff like that,” Pierce said. “So, we chose popular items.”
Roberts said the show also reached out to the people of Aiken in an online poll about which dishes to feature.
“We know what we sell a lot of, but they had a contest on Facebook also,” she said. “They asked a lot of our customers what their favorites were or what items they’d like to see back that we may have taken off. So, they really involved a lot of the local people.”
Despite only being in Aiken for a couple of hours, Mains said she has enjoyed the Southern hospitality.
“I love the fact that this is a space that was created for people inside horse country, like all the transients that will come here for the winter and people who will retire here,” Mains said. “Greg and Angie have created just a really nice restaurant to get a good meal, to kick up their feet, relax, enjoy some music, either outside on the patio or they’ve got people who play the piano too, which is pretty spectacular.”
America’s Best Restaurants will spend the week travelling around South Carolina exploring different restaurants. The Feed Sack is the only restaurant in Aiken that has been on the show.
