Pubs are places where we meet strangers and staff that can end up being our friends for life and part of our most cherished memories.
A staple of British culture, there’s nothing quite like going to your friendly local, meeting friends and enjoying a drink after a long day or to celebrate an occasion.
Greater Manchester has a long tradition of producing not just great breweries and pubs, but also some unforgettable staff who have served generations of drinkers.

Celebrating a handful of the region’s well-known and remembered boozers, the MEN has delved into the archives and found 19 fascinating photos of a number of pubs which have been unseen for years.
Rediscovered by Mirrorpix, some of the pubs featured are still going strong while others have long been consigned to the history books.
So let’s take a trip back in time and raise a glass to some of our locals – you may recognise a face or two!

The Manchester pub which was the birthplace of the Professional Footballers Association has reopened following a £50,000 facelift. The Imperial, Piccadilly, has been completely restyled.
