Sharing a birthday with a loved one is always special, and for royals, it is no different. Both the Jordanian Royal Family and Grand Ducal Family of Luxembourg have father/son duos who share their special day.
King Abdullah of Jordan was born on 30 January 1962 to King Hussein and Princess Muna. Forty-three years later, his youngest child, Prince Hashem, was born. Hashem was born on 30 January 2005 to King Abdullah and Queen Rania in Amman. The King marked his 60th birthday this year, and his youngest child, who is second in line to the throne, turned 17.

The Jordanian pair share a birthday with King Felipe of Spain, who was born on the same day in 1968.
Over in Luxembourg, Grand Duke Henri was born to Grand Duke Jean and Grand Duchess Joséphine-Charlotte in Betzdorf Castle on 16 April 1955. Decades later, his youngest child, Prince Sébastien, was born at the Grand Duchess Charlotte Maternity Hospital on the same day in 1992. Grand Duke Henri will mark his 67th birthday on Saturday, while his son will turn 30.

Henri and Sébastien actually share their birthday with Queen Margrethe of Denmark (who was born in 1940) and Princess Eleonore of Belgium (born 2008). Father and son are related to Eleonore through Henri’s mother, who was born a Princess of Belgium. Joséphine-Charlotte’s brother is King Albert – the grandfather of Princess Eleonore – making Eleonore a close cousin of the Luxembourg royals. Margrethe will be 82 this year, and Eleonore will be 14.
Parents sharing birthdays with their children is rare, and that’s why there are only two reigning royal families who have parents and children who have the same birthday as one another.
However, there are some royals who share birthdays with other members of their families like the Duchess of Sussex, who was born on the same day as The Queen Mother. The Queen Mother was born on 4 August 1900, and the Duchess of Sussex (born Meghan Markle) was born on 4 August 1981. Another example is Princess Marie-Christine of Belgium (b. 1951) who shares her 6 February birthday with her great-niece, Princess Louise of Belgium (b. 2004).
Regarding unreigning royals, Prince Vittorio Emanuele of Savoy shares a birthday with his wife, Marina. He was born on 12 February 1937; she was born two years earlier in 1935.
