Following the publication of the newspaper ABC, which was echoed by several Madrid media, the Saudi Embassy has denied that the ambassador and his wife and daughters were victims of an attempted robbery in Madrid. The published investigations emphasise that the alleged robbery was “carried out with violence” through “the use of a knife with which the ambassador was hit when he was acting in defence of the physical integrity of his daughters”, as reported in the newspaper ABC.
The Spanish-language daily ABC reported that the ambassador and his family had been assaulted by the “Rolex gang” in Calle Don Ramón de la Cruz, in the Salamanca district of the capital, Madrid, at around 2.30 p.m. and that a Rolex watch valued at 25,000 euros had been stolen.
Moreover, according to the Arab media Al-Weam, the ambassador is not in Spain but in the Kingdom enjoying his holidays, as he posted on his personal Twitter account moments later.
Ambassador Abdul Karim announced on his Twitter account: “The Spanish newspaper ABC published this morning and it was reported by other agencies that the Saudi ambassador and his family were robbed in the capital, Madrid, by people motivated by the robbery. It was also mentioned that during the defence I was hit on the head…! The whole news is devoid of truth and has no basis whatsoever, and I am still enjoying my annual holiday with my family all over the beloved Kingdom, and in perfect health and well-being.”
