Now that Sims 4 is free-to-play, more fans will want to try their hand at this popular franchise and the fun activities they can do like gardening
The Sims 4 is a great way to live out one's dreams without having even to leave the house. This life simulator has been around for years, and now it's gone free to play and everyone will get the chance to experience it. Of course, there is a bit of a learning curve for those new to the franchise.
Gardening is one of the many skills that Sims can learn and increase throughout the course of their lives. Knowing how to plant seeds and grow a garden is a great way to make Simoleons and even save a few in the kitchen. That's why this guide will show players how they can plant seeds and have their own little farm.
It's not possible to plant without having any seeds in Sim's inventory. So, before anything else, players will have to get some seeds. There are two ways to get seeds and start a garden, players can purchase them or find them. Both of these are viable options and have their own advantages.
Seed packets can be purchased by interacting with a Garden Planter Box or a Garden Pot – these items can both be bought in the Build And Buy mode.
After purchasing and placing either a Garden Planter Box or a Garden Pot, players will need to interact with it to get the "purchase seeds" option. Next, they'll have to select the seed packets that they'd like to buy and place an order.
After purchasing a seed packet, it'll automatically show up in the Sim's inventory. Open their inventory and select the packet. Players must select "open seed packet" and a few random seeds will appear in their Sim's inventory.
In The Sims 4, these aren't actually seeds; the herb, vegetable, fruit, or flower will appear in the player's inventory fully grown as if it had just been harvested. However, they work just as any seed would, they can be placed on the ground, covered with dirt, and watered just the same.
Seeds can also be found naturally in the world. There are certain spots that will have native plants are will keep growing as time goes by and there are also some places with community gardens that every Sim can visit and grab a few veggies and fruits.
To collect wild seeds, players simply have to find a plant that's ready for harvest, go up to it, and collect its produce. What's been collected will appear in the Sim's inventory and each fruit, vegetable, herb, or flower can be replanted and will then turn into their own plant.
Players can also try to do some fishing and see what they find. It won't guarantee any seeds like scavenging does, but it's certainly a way to find rarer seeds such as the Cowplant berry – be careful though, Cowplants can be fatal if not taken care of properly.
Once there is something plantable in the Sim's inventory, players will either have to manually grab the seed and place it wherever they'd like to plant it or press the planter box and select "plant…", which will open the Sims inventory and make them choose what they'd like to plant.
After planting, it's important to water, weed, and spray the plant for bugs from time to time to keep it healthy. It'll eventually grow and be ready for harvest. If it's taken care of properly, players will even be able to evolve it so that it grows better quality products.
The Sims 4 is available now for Mac, PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S.
