This week I’m “liveblogging” my trip to Ukraine. Unlike traditional reports, these posts will be shorter and more frequent.
I’ve been to a lot of airline lounges all over the world, but the Whisky Club 28/10 inside the SWISS Senator Lounge in the E Gates of Zurich Terminal 1 is my favorite in terms of design.
SWISS used to have what it called “the world’s longest bar” at its old lounge in the A Gates. Does anyone remember that? Here are some pictures I took in 2009:
When SWISS remodeled the lounge a few years ago, this bar got the axe.
That was a cool bar, but then SWISS opened up a new Whisky Club 28/10 in the Senator Lounge located in the E Gates area.
I’m not much of a whiskey drinker and have never actually tried the massive assortment of whisky here…but I do love the design. I find the colors and lighting create one of the most beautiful lounge spaces in the world and a bar that is so much cooler than even the nifty bar in the Air France La Premiere Lounge in Paris or Virgin Clubhouse in London.
The bar is named 28/10 after the runways at Zurich. What I find to be the coolest part of this bar is the design on the walls and ceilings are modeled after runways. Not only is it beautiful, but it tells a story beyond just the art.
Maybe it’s just me, but I find this a very cool space and the design uniquely special.
BTW, my runner-up for most beautiful airline lounge bar is The Pier in Hong Kong. This Cathay Pacific First Class Lounge also has a beautiful bar that I cannot wait to return to!
Not in terms of drinks or service, but simply in terms of style, which airport lounge bar do you find most beautiful?

Honestly, when departing LX in J, I sometimes felt that the whiskey bar and lounge somewhat made up for the onboard product.
Is it better than the Etihad bars in first/business lounges in Abu Dhabi ?
Aren’t E Gates supposed to be terminal 2?
Looks great and even has me thinking about star alliance gold. Also love the main bar at the United lounge at LHR.
Shutterwhale has a fairly recent review of the Qatar lounge in Singapore and the bar there looks a lot like the Cathay Pier first class bar. High praise from him.
You’ll forgive me if I pull rank but my favorite bar was in the TWA Ambassador Club at JFK in the final few years. Well, that and boarding directly from the lounge onto Concorde at LHR.
