There’s getting away from it all, then there’s vacationing at Null Stern.
In 2017, Null Stern, which translates to “zero stars” in German, opened its first “room.” And we put that in quotation marks because Null Stern isn’t a room at all. Rather, it’s a hotel experience unlike any other where guests truly get to experience the nature surrounding them. That’s because the “room” comes with no bathroom, no walls, and no ceiling. Just a bed and the stars above. And now, the company has opened up six more locations in Eastern Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein.
“Switzerland's landscape will become the wallpaper of rooms without walls or roof,” the company explained in a statement. “This vision is now becoming a reality in the tourist destinations of Eastern Switzerland: St.Gallen-Lake Constance, Toggenburg, Heidiland, Appenzellerland AR, Thurgau, Schaffhauserland, and the Principality of Liechtenstein. The region is growing together into an imaginary building, in which the landscape becomes the wallpaper.”
Just like in 2017, Null Stern will once again not use traditional hotel managers, but rather, each room will be operated by the local residents who can turn the space into anything they want to best represent their area. They will be known as the “modern butler.”
“The ‘modern butler’ embodies the essence of ‘zero real estate’ spirit: people taking care of people,” the company explains. “The ‘modern butler’ was born by merging the classic hospitality world as reflected by the white gloves, black bow tie, and white shirt, and the artistic world which provides the freedom to be unconventional and creative while fulfilling the main duties of focusing on the guest, the only star.”
The team explained, each modern butler will undergo a “unique and demanding training” to learn and practice “carrying trays on steep slopes, making beds in windy weather, and jumping over water streams,” These team members will be on hand to welcome guests, escort them to suites, and take care of their every need. Don’t worry, if there’s bad weather the modern butler will help guests find alternative housing too. Check out the “hotel’s” website for rates and bookings now.
