This is how a Trump presidential announcement could impact the Senate runoff Former President Donald Trump is expected to announce Tuesday night that he’s once again running for president.
ATLANTA — Former President Donald Trump is expected to announce Tuesday night that he’s once again running for president.
Channel 2′s Dave Huddleston spent the day Tuesday finding out what impact that announcement could have on the U.S. Senate runoff between Herschel Walker and Raphael Warnock.
So will Trump come to Georgia to campaign for Herschel Walker? Republicans appeared to avoid the question.
“That’s what Herschel needs to do and he’s doing. He’s talking about how he’s going to focus on bringing down inflation and bringing down the crime rate and securing the border,” Florida Sen. Rick Scott said when Huddleston asked him about the former president coming to support Walker.
Political analyst Fred Hicks said Republicans told Trump to stay away from Georgia during the general election because he could galvanize Democrats.
“With him being on the ballot in 2024 and him announcing now, he’s going to be a centerpiece of this campaign and I fully expect the Warnock campaign would tie Herschel Walker to Donald Trump,” Hicks said.

At a campaign stop Tuesday, that’s exactly Warnock did when Huddleston asked him about Trump.
“We’ll see what President Trump decides to do. Here’s what we know: he is well practiced in the politics of division and my opponent is his accolade,” Warnock said.
Hicks said Trump could bring excitement to the race.
“I think that the energy that a Trump campaign brings to his base of voters is very important for Herschel Walker if he is going to win this runoff,” Hicks said.
Hicks says it may be harder for Republicans to keep Trump out of Georgia for the runoff, now that he has his own political race to run.
Huddleston reached out to the Walker campaign for comment on this story, but didn’t hear back.
