For those who frequent Golden Mile Food Centre often, you can definitely attest to the incredible food the hawker centre has to offer. With popular stalls like Wen Kang Ji, Braise, and Ah Xiao Teochew Braised Duck, Tee Kitchen is another spot you should definitely be adding to your list. Being the only hawker stall in Singapore serving Columbian Chicken, this unique and delicious dish is definitely a must-try!
Run by a husband-and-wife duo, they first started out as a home-based business selling apple and banana crumble before opening Tee Kitchen in 2020. Why serve Columbian Chicken you may ask? Well, the recipe is actually from a Columbian family friend who would often cook it during their get-togethers. The dish soon became a dinner staple for the couple and they decided to share it with the rest of Singapore through their hawker stall.
Comprising of two mains – Colombian Chicken with Special Rice & Salsa ($5.50) and Baked Salmon with Special Rice & Salsa ($8), Tee Kitchen also offers desserts like Apple Crumble ($2.50) and Banana Crumble ($2.50) to end off your amazing meals. For all you Orh Nee lovers, they even sell it by the tub at $28!
The Columbian Chicken ($5.50) is served with their Special Rice, two huge pieces of chicken, and a side of salsa. Unlike your normal rice, Tee Kitchen’s is slightly savoury, pairing well with the delightfully thick and flavourful stew. Interestingly, the flavour of the stew isn’t foreign at all, but it’s reminiscent of your Chinese-style braised chicken sauce. As for the star of the dish, the chicken is incredibly succulent and tender, melting beautifully in your mouth with each bite.
Adding a touch of acidity and brightness to the dish is the salsa, giving a good balance to the savouriness of the chicken. Don’t be fooled by the tiny dollop of chilli because it really packs a punch! Tasting similar to chicken rice chilli, it adds a pleasant layer of tang and spice. Mix everything up together for an amazing burst of flavours, with a lingering spice that’ll have you wanting more!
Overall; the dish is really moreish and clean-tasting, making it enjoyable for most people. Hurry down and try this one-of-a-kind dish for yourself today!
