Luxury Home Buyers Increasingly Drawn to Greece
Forecasts for Greece’s high-end housing market this year are particularly positive, according to a report by Sotheby’s International Realty. “The Greek luxury real estate market is in a phase of transformation, attracting a wide and international range of buyers,” said Savvas Savvaidis, chairman and CEO of Greece Sotheby’s International Realty. “In particular, it attracts international investors from regions such as Central Europe, Egypt and Australia, opening up new prospects for the sector.” Helping attract would-be investors is the Greek economy, which remains on the path of recovery, in contrast to the uncertainty that has affected other economies. eKathimerini
Rents in Calgary, Canada, Have Surged 22% in Two Years
Calgary has posted some of the largest year-over-year rent increases in Canada, according to the latest report from rentals.ca and Urbanation. And more above-average rent increases are on the horizon for the city in 2024, the report says. The rent rankings place Calgary as the 22nd most-expensive city in Canada to rent, with the average one-bedroom unit going for C$1,708 (US$1,281) and two-bedrooms going for C$2,084. It represents a 14% year-over-year price increase among one-bedroom apartments. Going back one more year, rent in Calgary has increased 22% since 2022. Calgary Herald
Seattle Saw Biggest Home Price Drop in a Decade Last Year
Home prices in the Seattle-area dipped last year at levels unseen in more than a decade, according to a report by the Northwest Multiple Listing Service. The price declines are a sign that the Seattle-area housing market is “finally coming back to reality,” said Mason Virant, associate director of the Washington Center for Real Estate Research at the University of Washington. While home prices ticked up in more affordable rural counties, such as Clallam and Cowlitz, they dipped 3% to 4% in counties closer to Seattle. Seattle Times
South Carolina Property Where Murdaugh Murders Took Place Heads to Auction
The Islandton, South Carolina, farm where attorney Alex Murdaugh murdered his wife and son is headed to auction next month. The online auction for the 21-acre property will be held Feb. 9-15, with a reserve price of $1.1 million. Built in 2011, the main house spans nearly 5,300 square feet and has four bedrooms and four and a half bathrooms. The entire 1,772-acre parcel once owned by the Murdaugh family sold last year for $2.66 million, and the new owners are now selling a portion of the land with the house. Murdaugh is serving a life sentence for the 2021 murders of his wife, Maggie, and his son Paul. He also pled guilty to 22 counts of financial fraud. Realtor.com
