WestJet started cancelling flights Thursday in anticipation of a pilots’ strike despite ongoing talks between the union and the airline. WestJet CEO Alexis von Hoensbroech says the idea is to avoid abandoning aircraft in remote locations without support, adding that this means passengers and crew are less likely to be stranded abroad.
