Donald Trump became the first former U.S. president to stand trial on criminal charges on Monday in a case stemming from a 2016 hush-money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels. As the trial kicked off, New York prosecutors asked a judge to fine Trump and remind him he could go to jail for violating a gag orderabout potential witnesses.
A fee fight is afoot between defamation specialty firm Clare Locke and four partners who split off last year to launch their own shop — and took a key client with them. The client, which invented a device to make the notoriously finicky ice cream machines at McDonald’s more reliable, is close to settling its commercial defamation case against the fast-food giant.
