Aearo Technologies, a 3M subsidiary, appealed the dismissal of its bankruptcy case late Monday, challenging a judge’s ruling that it was not in immediate jeopardy from 260,000 lawsuits alleging that 3M military earplugs caused hearing loss for veterans and U.S. service members.
3M has lost 10 of the 16 earplug cases that have gone to trial so far, with about $265 million being awarded in total to 13 plaintiffs. Read more about the appeal.

The New York Court of Appeals made it harder for music producer Dr. Luke to win his defamation lawsuit against pop star Kesha. The producer, whose real name is Lukasz Gottwald (pictured), in his 2014 lawsuit claimed that Kesha defamed him by falsely accusing him of raping her nearly 20 years ago. The case hinges on the question: Is Dr. Luke a “public” or “private” figure?
