Trump turns to ex-Manafort lawyer to fight New York charges

Former President Donald Trump hired prominent white-collar attorney and former federal prosecutor Todd Blanche as he prepares to fight his indictment over a 2016 hush money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels. Blanche has resigned from Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft, a firm spokesperson said.

Blanche successfully defended former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort in a case brought by the Manhattan DA’s office that stemmed from former U.S. Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

Trump is due to be arraigned in a Manhattan court on Tuesday. The specific charges have yet to be unsealed, but Trump has vowed to fight what he and his allies call a politically motivated prosecution. New York City police have set up metal barriers around Trump Tower and blocked roads near Manhattan Criminal Courthouse as they brace for potential protests ahead of Trump’s expected surrender.

Ex-Clinton campaign lawyer cleared of lying to FBI returns to practice

Michael Sussmann, a cybersecurity lawyer who was acquitted last year of allegations that he lied to the FBI during a meeting about purported ties between former President Donald Trump and Russia, joined the cybersecurity and privacy practice at Fenwick & West, the firm said Monday. The move marks a return to practice for Sussmann, who resigned from law firm Perkins Coie after he was indicted by U.S. Special Counsel John Durham in 2021. Read more.
