Timberyard and Heron have joined a list of ten Scottish venues to be awarded one Michelin star in the newly released 2023 guide.
Two restaurants in Edinburgh have become the latest Scottish venues to be awarded a coveted Michelin star following the release of the 2023 Great Britain and Ireland guide.
Considered the most distinguished award in the food industry, Michelin stars are desired by chefs and restaurant owners across the country.
According to the Michelin website, “one star is awarded to restaurants using top quality ingredients, where dishes with distinct flavours are prepared to a consistently high standard”.
Timberyard and Heron, both located in the capital, have joined an exclusive list of ten Scottish venues to have received the accolade.
Family-run restaurant Timberyard, found in a warehouse in the heart of Edinburgh, was singled out by the Michelin Guide for its “well defined and satisfying” dishes and “lovely” service team.

Heron, situated within Leith, was praised by the guide for being “fresh, understated and uncluttered”, as well as its “prepared, balanced, and delicious dishes”.

The two Edinburgh sites join Cail Bruich, The Cellar, Condita, Glenturret Lalique, The Kitchin, Loch Bay, Number One, Peat Inn, Martin Wishart, and Unalome by Graeme Cheevers, which all hold one Michelin star each.
A second star is reserved for “refined and inspired” food and restaurants in which the “personality and talent of the chef are evident in their expertly crafted dishes”.
Restaurant Andrew Fairlie, found within the Gleneagles Hotel, is currently the only Scottish restaurant to hold this title.
Gwendal Poullennec, international director of the Michelin Guides, said: “The Michelin Guide team is on hand and busy organising a celebration to fully reflect the talent, commitment and resilience of the British and Irish gastronomic scenes – a celebration all the more welcome in the current challenging economic climate.”
