The visits take place at a time when African countries, including Uganda, are fostering cooperative relations with countries in the Asia-Pacific region, including Vietnam.
Meanwhile, the cooperative relations between Vietnam and African countries and Uganda in particular are developing considerably in various fields, including politics, diplomacy, economy, and agriculture.
Vietnam and Uganda established diplomatic ties in February 1973, and 2023 will mark 50 years of bilateral diplomacy.
The two-way trade turnover between the two countries reached US$14.3 million last year, up 39.8% year on year. As of October 2022, Uganda had three investment projects in Vietnam, while the latter had two investment projects in the former with a total investment of US$35.5 million.
Vietnam and Uganda also signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the fields of agriculture and fisheries. The two sides still have great potential for cooperation in trade, agriculture, education – training, information – communication.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is scheduled to hold talks with Vietnamese President Nguyen Xuan Phuc, and meet with senior Vietnamese leaders, including Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
