The country’s priciest and cheapest pints have been revealed, and while it’s good news for some cities in the Midlands and beyond, it won’t be a surprise where you can find the most expensive. Analysis done by Finder looked at the average prices of beer in the most populated places around the globe, as well as right here in the UK.
Finder calculated their numbers based on data from cost-of-living sites Expatistan and Numbeo as of August 2022. The majority of values were averaged from the two sites.
The UK’s most expensive average price was London, costing £5.99, a rise of 49p from 2021. Whereas the cheapest pint in the whole country was found in Derby at just £3.00, a whole £2.99 less than in the capital.

Finder also found Derby’s pints were £1.12 less than the UK average of £4.15. The average cost of a pint in the UK has increased seven per cent from £3.89 in 2021, and has increased by 11 per cent from the UK average of £3.72 in 2019.
The top five most expensive pints in the UK were found in Brighton and Hove (second, £5.02); Luton (third, £5.00); Norwich (fourth, £5.00); and York (fifth, £4.85). Following Derby at the cheaper end of the list, Kingston Upon Hull and Perth were the second and third cheapest cities to buy a beer.
Compared to the £3.00 for Derby, Kingston Upon Hull charges £3.32 and Perth’s average is £3.46. Peterborough landed in fourth with a price of £3.50, and Gloucester in fifth with the same cost.
Although London is the home of the most costly pint in the UK, it didn’t manage to find itself in the world’s top five, or the top ten. Sitting in thirteenth place just behind Zurich, Switzerland (£6.08), and ahead of Paris, France (£5.78), the capital just scraped its way out of the priciest bracket.
Finding itself in top spot for 2022 was Doha, Qatar, whose average pint price jumped from £9.98 in 2021 to £11.37 in 2022. The top three places were made up by Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (second, £10.82) and Muscat, Oman, in third with an average spend of £9.80.
Making up the five cities with the most expensive beer were Manama, Bahrain (fourth, £8.13), and Reykjavik, Iceland (fifth, £7.53). However, not all pints cost a fortune, with the cheapest average price in the world costing £0.67 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
The other four cities with the cheapest beer were Freetown, Sierra Leone (second, £0.74); Yangon, Myanmar (third, £0.75); Antananarivo, Madagascar (fourth, £0.76); and Bogota, Colombia (fifth, £0.76).
