In honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month — which runs annually from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 — and celebrates the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans to the history, richness and culture in the U.S., we have complied a list of some the best Latino-owned restaurants in the Poconos.
It’s where you’ll find savory eats and dishes from Puerto Rico, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Argentina, Cuba the Dominican Republic, and more.
Café Duet: Popular coffee shop which sells artisan coffee, breakfast and lunch and known for it’s delicious homemade Argentine pastries and other delicacies. Bakery items change weekly, so call ahead for info.

Del Tacos: This eatery opened in September 2019 by Ceasar Del Moral, who was inspired to bring homemade recipes passed down through generations to the Poconos. Menu items include pancita (belly soup), sopa de res (beef soup), steak, veggie and chicken enchiladas, pork, steak and chicken tortas, and fish and carne asada tacos.

Don Pedro’s: Although there’s pizza on the menu, don’t overlook the Cuban, Puerto Rican and Dominican cuisine.
Eats to try are the morcilla la aquadillana (blood sausage), sancocho soup (served with a side of rice), and the Cuban sandwich (roasted pork, Virginia ham, swiss cheese, house-made pickles, and yellow mustard).

El Merengue: Features on the menu include mangu (mashed plantains) Rabo (oxtail), molondrones (okra), chivo (stewed goat), and costillas guisadas (stewed ribs).

El Rincón Caribe: Owned by Oscar and Wilma Martinez, the eatery serves authentic eats inspired by Wilma’s “second mom” Iris “Sarita” Vargas. In their hometown of Lajas, Sarita taught Wilma how to make her famous tamales, pernil and carne guisado (among other menu items). Lunch specials are served weekly and start at $7.95. Not hungry, try the empanadas or a papa rellena (reporter approved and delicious!). Catering is also available for parties and corporate events.

Emilio’s Place: Emilio and Marisela Quinteros own this family-owned joint offers an extensive menu featuring everything from Pollo Guisado to you guessed it: the Cuban sandwich.
Emilio’s take checks out at $9.35. Don’t skip on the pernil sandwich, for the same price. Both dishes are partnered with a side of fries.
Other can’t miss eats: try the seafood Ceviche, or if you’re feeling adventurous, the classic Escaveche de Guineo, which features green banana and chicken gizzards— and is packed with Latin flavors.

Inti Cuisine: If you’re craving Peruvian comida, you must try the ceviche made with fish and marinated in lemon juice with fresh cilantro, fresh red raw onion and peruvian pepper (optional). Served with sweet potato and Peruvian corn kernels.
Craving more: order the arroz chaufa with chicken, which is a delicious mix of rice, ginger, scrambled eggs, green onions and spices and sautéed in soy sauce.

Llama Ice Cream: A Pocono favorite among both locals and tourists, owners Julio and Celia Amenero keep it cool with their homemade ice cream with exotic flavors and fresh fruit native to Peru such as lucama, maracuya, guava, mango, dulce de leche, guava, mamey and tamarind. Perfect for fall are new flavors, maple syrup (made with local ingredients), peanut butter and pistachio.

La Posada Mexican and Felix’s Cantina:
Owned by Bill Rosado and operated by chef Miguel Gonzales this newly opened restaurant serves dishes from the Mexico’sYucatán peninsula.
Try the tapas such as the tuna crudo ceviche tostada (topped with avocado), totopos y guacamole (freshly made tortilla chips with avocado), pico de gallo (fresh jimotate, green peppers, onions, and cilantro), and main dishes suc as the tacos al pastor (fried pork tacos, topped with roasted onions and cilantro), cochinita tacos (slow roasted tucatan style pork butt tacos served on corn tortilla topped with curtida onions, and pumpkin blossom tacos (vegan seared squash blossoms tossed in a light tinga sauce with sautéed onions and green peppers).

Rogue Tacos:
Tre Sazón Kitchen and Bar: Sure, there’s American fare on the menu, but you can also find Mexican-dishes such as beef enchiladas, fish and steak tacos, and Puerto Rican platters such as bistec encebollado (stewed cubed steak with onions and sofrito) and El Salvadorian papusas (corn patties served with rice and beans and chicharrones).

Taquería El Mexicanito: No surprise that the family-owned restaurant, which has been open for about a year, is one the most popular on HungryWeDeliver.net.
But don’t only order to-go. It’s a worth the trip just to check out the décor (notice the portrait of Virgen de Guadalupe by the cash-wrap and colorful paintings in the back of the restaurant.
Try the sandwiches (tortas) in either beef, chicken or steak or one of their local approved tacos such as the pastor (pork), chorizo, lengua (beef tongue), and alambre (steak, bacon, green peppers, onion and cheese).
For $10, you’ll leave feeling satisfied for sure.
