“Superbad,” starring Jonah Hill and Michael Cera, opened in theaters 15 years ago on August 17, 2007. Fans hoping to revisit the movie can rent or buy it from major digital retailers like Amazon and Vudu.
In the hit coming-of-age comedy, high-school buddies Seth (Hill) and Evan (Cera) get invited to a party the night before their graduation. They then embark on a mission to score some liquor and attempt to lose their virginities. Written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, the fan-favorite received critical acclaim and its behind-the-scenes history is nearly as memorable as the movie itself.
“Superbad” is inspired by Rogen and Goldberg’s own experiences. The film’s cast features Emma Stone, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Martha MacIsaac, and Bill Hader. Directed by Greg Mottola and produced by Judd Apatow and Shauna Robertson, “Superbad” grossed $170.8 million at the box office.
“Superbad” is available to rent or buy in up to 4K resolution on Prime Video, Vudu, Apple TV, and YouTube. It costs about $3 to rent or $5 to buy, but pricing varies depending on the service and quality you choose.
After purchasing “Superbad,” you’ll be able to stream it whenever you want with no restrictions. If renting the film, you have 30 days to start watching and 48 hours to finish it after you press play.
You can also stream “Superbad” if you have a pay-TV plan with TBS, TNT, or TruTV. The movie is available through each of those corresponding apps after you sign in with your account credentials.
Digital retailer and channel apps are available on most connected devices, like smart TVs, smartphones, media players, gaming consoles, and internet browsers. Check the digital service you choose to ensure your device is supported by its app.
“Superbad” is not currently available on Netflix or any other subscription streaming service.
Producer Judd Apatow wants a sequel to “Superbad,” but the cast doesn’t. In an episode of the “Inside of You podcast” with Michael Rosenbaum, Apatow revealed his idea for the second film: Seth flunks out of school and unexpectedly visits Evan at Dartmouth College.
Despite Apatow’s interest, the cast remains hesitant. Apatow told Rosenbaum that they’re reluctant because they don’t “want to screw up ‘Superbad’ by accidentally making a crappy second one.”
“Superbad” is considered a modern teen comedy classic. Since its release, the film has maintained popularity, and it currently holds an “87% Certified Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
