A relatively small number of law schools dominate the federal clerk hiring market. The 10 law schools with the highest percentage of federal clerks produced one third of all clerks nationwide this year, according to the ABA figures. Which school came out on top?

NCAA balks at athletes’ $1.3 billion antitrust lawsuit, calling it speculative

The NCAA has asked a U.S. judge to block current and former student athletes from suing as a class action in seeking more than $1.3 billion over the use of their names and images in televised broadcasts and other forums. The NCAA’s lawyers called the pursuit of damages “speculative and unsupported.” Read more.

Plaintiffs’ lawyers for years have challenged rules that prohibited college athletes from receiving compensation. The NCAA loosened restrictions in 2021, letting players profit from their “name, image and likeness” through deals with companies and other third parties.

When big-name lawyers become small-stakes plaintiffs

Paul Weiss partner Bill Isaacson is well-known for representing blue chip clients in cases with millions or even billions of dollars on the line. But as Jenna Greene writes in her latest column, he’s also a co-plaintiff in a small-ticket fight over his Washington, D.C., home’s monthly sewer bill. The suit reminds Greene of King & Spalding partner Randy Mastro’s battle over a fine for false fire alarms. Still, being a top-rated litigator doesn’t guarantee success when confronting the implacable wall of municipal bureaucracy.
