A public inquiry into the devastating 2017 London Grenfell Tower blaze blamed the disaster on failings by government, the construction industry and most of all the firms involved in fitting the exterior with flammable cladding.
Seventy-two people died when the fire ripped through the 23-storey social housing block in one of the richest areas of west London. Seven years after the tragedy, buildings in many countries are still wrapped in “solid gasoline”, our graphics team reports.

The Arch of Constantine, a giant ancient Roman arch next to the Colosseum, was damaged after a violent storm in Rome. The arch was hit on its southern side, where conservation work had started two days ago and which will now also focus on repairing the damage.
