The U.S. BAFTA team wanted them there, but London execs fully shut it down.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle weren’t invited to the BAFTA Tea Party in Los Angeles on Saturday—an apparent snub that was fully intentional. The tea party took place at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills and was full of celebs—and according to The Sun "excited U.S. PR advisors" initially wanted to invite the Sussexes due to being "keen" to capitalize on publicity surrounding their Netflix series.
But, uh, yeah…London execs went ahead and shut down the idea. A source explained that "BAFTA decided it was a terrible idea, they thought it would be a PR disaster. Prince Harry, in his book and docu-series, has roundly attacked the Royal Family. The US team was reminded that Harry’s arch-nemesis, his brother Prince William, is president of BAFTA."
The source added that "For them to roll out the red carpet to Harry and his wife would be like setting off a nuclear bomb. It’s a no go. Any interviews he or Meghan gave would go viral. Anything negative on William would be devastating."
Meanwhile, The Sun reports that a BAFTA spokeswoman denied that Harry and Meghan had even been considered for the invite list.
This alleged BAFTAs snub obviously comes amid revelations from Prince Harry’s book absolutely dominating the internet, much of which don’t exactly make the royals look great. Apparently, Harry hasn’t been in touch with his family since Spare’s publication, but there are reports that he, Prince William, and King Charles, could gather together for a reconciliation chat ahead of Charles’ coronation, so stay tuned.
