Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall have been married for more than 15 years, and their marriage is widely regarded to be a happy one. But Charles and Camilla’s love story wasn’t always smooth-sailing, with the breakdown of their previous respective marriages to Diana, Princess of Wales and Andrew Parker Bowles playing out under the glare of the media and the public eye. In light of the controversy surrounding their marriage, it was announced Camilla would be known as Princess Consort when Charles is King rather than Queen Camilla. But could this all change as Camilla’s popularity continues to rise?
Polling suggests Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall is not considered one of the Royal Family’s most popular members among the British public.
The top spots of the royal popularity rankings are often held by Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and perhaps predictably, the Queen.
But analysis released by polling body YouGov last month found Camilla and Charles’ popularity had soared over the three months from late August.
According to royal favourability data, Prince Charles ranked with a 54 percent popularity rating at the end of August, but ended November with 60 percent.

And in August Camilla had a positive opinion rating of 43 percent, which was boosted to 45 percent by the end of November, although 42 percent had a negative opinion of her.
Slowly but surely, it appears Camilla is winning people over as she becomes more self-assured in her royal role.
The YouGov survey was conducted among 1,730 adults between November 23 and November 24, 2021, a time when Camilla and Charles’ public profile was significantly boosted.
During the Queen’s well-documented health battles last year, and the monarch’s subsequent scale back of diary engagements, Charles and Camilla were present at several high-profile events over the autumn and winter periods.
Notably, Charles and Camilla led the royal contingent at the COP26 climate summit in early November, where Charles famously gave heartfelt speeches on the importance of tackling climate change.
And later in November, Charles and Camilla embarked on their first royal tour abroad since the start of the pandemic, visiting Egypt and Jordan.
Around this time, Camilla also kept a busy diary of engagements for her many personal patronages as Christmas approached.
With Camilla’s evident growing confidence under the royal spotlight, and her popularity with the British public gradually on the rise in recent months, it begs the question – could Camilla ever be Queen?

Since their marriage in 2005, the ‘Princess Consort’ title has been earmarked for Camilla when Charles eventually succeeds the throne. But there have been suggestions in recent years this title will not actually be used.
Even Charles appeared unsure on whether the Duchess of Cornwall would be known as Queen one day when he appeared on American television in 2010. When asked, Charles said: “That’s… well, we’ll see, won’t we? That could be.”
The Clarence House website previously listed an FAQ about whether Camilla will be known as Queen when Charles is King, but according to The Telegraph, this question and its response was removed from the site in 2018.
The move prompted speculation that the Princess Consort title would not be used for Camilla after all, but a spokesman for Clarence House told the publication at the time: “Our Frequently Asked Questions are updated regularly.
“This is one question that Clarence House has not been asked by the public for some time, which is why it no longer features.”
As recently as 2020, Clarence House again rebuffed claims Camilla would be Queen with a statement that read: “The intention is for the Duchess to be known as Princess Consort when the Prince accedes to the throne.
“This was announced at the time of the marriage and there has been absolutely no change at all.”
So whether Camilla will be known as Princess Consort or Queen Camilla in the future remains to be seen, but it will likely be a controversial aspect of Charles’ succession to the throne.
