A woman was shocked to find the nozzle from a McDonald’s machine in her takeaway soft drink.
Bethanie Duffell, 20, ordered the fruit-flavoured Oasis as part of her meal from McDonald’s at Medway Valley Leisure Park on Tuesday night, but when she took a sip, the drink tasted “horrible”. When she poured it away on Wednesday evening, she noticed a part of the drinks machine was inside her cup.
Bethanie’s grandmother Maureen Duffell, 61, said: “She wasn’t very happy. She couldn’t have choked but it’s still not very pleasant.
“After she noticed it, she was a bit disgusted that she drank from the cup but I joked that she’d been given an extra side!”
Maureen, who lives in Hawthorn Road in Strood, said the restaurant had been aware of the missing nozzle and had reportedly asked customers to check their drinks, but because Bethanie had ordered hers through UberEats, the message hadn’t reached her.
Maureen spoke to a manager on Wednesday night and has handed the nozzle back to the store. She said: “The manager did say sorry, and offered us two free meals of our choice. We’re not angry. It’s all quite funny, really.
“I really just want to make people aware that this is something that can happen.
“We laughed about it at first but then the seriousness kicked in.
“It was an accident, but if that was smaller, or even just if a small child had gotten it, it could have been really dangerous.”
A McDonald’s spokesman said: “We are disappointed to hear this customer’s experience. We have high standards and are sorry that we did not meet them on this occasion.
“We place great emphasis on quality control and follow rigorous standards in order to avoid any imperfections.
“We are pleased to hear that the customer has been in contact with our restaurant team to find a resolution.”
