VIENTIANE — Lao Deputy Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone on Saturday hailed the Laos-China railway as a pride of Laos.
When addressing a gathering to review the operation of the railway that went optional on Dec. 3, 2021, Sonexay said the cross-border railway, a landmark project of Laos-China friendship, is a strategic project to convert Laos from a landlocked country to a land-linked hub, synergizing with the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative. KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysian cabinet ministers appointed to their portfolios were sworn in on Saturday, allowing them to officially assume their duties.

KABUL — The Taliban-run caretaker government has strongly condemned the attack on the Embassy of Pakistan in Kabul as an act of terror and assured to provide security for the diplomatic missions based in the country.
“The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan condemns the failed attack on Pakistan’s embassy in its strongest term and won’t allow any malicious actors to pose a threat to the security of diplomatic missions in Kabul,” the administration’s foreign ministry spokesman Abdul Qahar Balkhi said in his Twitter account. JAKARTA — A 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck Indonesia’s western province of West Java on Saturday, but did not trigger a tsunami, the meteorology, climatology and geophysics agency reported.
The agency had first reported the quake with 6.4-magnitude, and it has now been revised to 6.1 magnitude, head of quake and tsunami mitigation division of the agency Daryono told Xinhua over phone. (Indonesia-Earthquake,2nd LD Writethru) Enditem
