The San Manuel Band of Mission Indians opened a bingo hall on a Highland hillside 35 years ago. Now, the tribe hopes its latest development on the land will become the type of luxury destination that guests often seek outside of the Inland Empire.
A 432-room resort tower opened at Yaamava’ Resort & Casino at San Manuel Monday, Dec. 13, the latest part of a $760-million expansion of the property formerly known as San Manuel Casino.
“This is a big game-changer for not only the casino and resort but for the tribe as well,” said Peter Arceo, general manager of Yaamava’ Resort & Casino. “Going forward, we will be able to reach out not only beyond the city limits but outside of the state and region. We will eventually go global.”
Yaamava’ has already been working on raising its profile. A new version of its fine dining restaurant, The Pines Modern Steakhouse, opened in October, featuring high-end menu items such as wagyu beef and gold leaf-topped mac and cheese, as well as more traditional steakhouse fare. And for the final phase of the complex’s expansion, Yaamava’ officials plan to bring back big-name entertainment when an events center opens in 2022.
From luxury suites to a VIP club to a new spa, here’s what’s inside the new resort tower at Yaamava’.

The new 17-floor hotel tower has 432 rooms, with 127 suites. Of those suites, 37 are luxury two-bedroom suites. Resort officials say the hotel is open at full capacity but rooms are fully booked until April.
The hotel offers two standard room options, both measuring 360 square feet. The Standard King room features a king bed and is equipped for two guests, while the Standard Queen offers two queen beds for a maximum of four guests. These rooms also feature a 65-inch television and a coffee maker. The bathrooms in the standard rooms do not have tubs, only showers. Weekday rates start at $600, while weekends range from $800-$900 per night.
The 37 luxury 1,487-square-foot two-bedroom suites are on the 17th floor and are reserved for VIP guests and are not available for the general public to book. Upon entry, the room leads into a dining room and a view of the San Bernardino mountains. There are 65-inch televisions in the living room, dining room and bedrooms. The suite also includes a mini bar and a mini fridge. The master bedroom has king bed and a second bedroom has two queen beds. The master bathroom includes a tub in the center of the room.

However, the smaller 560-square-foot suites are available to the general public. They include a king bed, a television and a coffee maker. However, this room doesn’t provide a mini fridge, mini bar and nor a bathtub like the larger executive suite. The smaller executive suites are located on the 16th and 17th floors. There are also some on the third floor for easier access to the pool. Prices for suites start at $800 on weeknights and $1,000 on weekends.

The 17th floor also includes an exclusive lounge for VIP guests, high-stakes players and guests staying in suites.
The lounge is open daily and has a bar that specializes in rare alcohol and cigars that have a price to match, such as a 52-year-old Scotch that costs $3,100 per ounce. The space includes indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor patio area offers a view from the highest point of the hotel that looks out to the mountains.

The new spa is part of resort officials’ strategy to offer a more luxurious experience. Director of Spa Operations, Shane Upson, said resort officials were open to creativity, resulting in 11 different treatment packages with crystals.
“We wanted to embrace what we’re known for, and that’s being fun,” Hudson said.
The spa’s menu refers to its treatments as “journeys,” Each one includes up to four components: a facial, body treatment, massage and manicure and pedicure. They are priced separately, allowing customizable treatments. If guests see a different massage not included in their chosen treatment, they can swap it out for another. Some of the treatments include the Amethyst and Marshmallow Soothing Facial ($195 and $285) and the Crystal Healing Manicure ($150) and Pedicure ($180). Prices for each treatment vary but can be found on the casino’s website.
Guests can expect their experience to begin in the Tranquility Lounge, where they are offered tea before going to an individual or couples suite, where treatments begin. Visitors will also have access to locker rooms with showers, a dry sauna and a eucalyptus steam room.
At the end of the spa visit, guests can choose to go into the co-ed Water Sanctuary room, which features a waterfall leading into a pool surrounded by sun loungers, or go outside to the pool deck, with fireplaces by its outdoor seating.
“You have the versatility of going to the mountainside where you can experience more of a peaceful tranquility or get a little more energy by the poolside,” Upson said.

The pool deck, although ready, won’t open until the warmer weather comes in spring 2022.
It features two pools and two 4-foot-deep jacuzzis and a giant LED television where the resort plans to broadcast sporting events. There are seven cabanas, which include mini refrigerators, safes, day beds and snacks.
The pool area will also have a restaurant called Radiance Café and the Helix Bar. The casino plans to use the pool area for special events once it’s opened.
“This is it,” Hudson said. “This is going to be the hot spot where everyone wants to be.”
