Earlier this month we revealed The Hawthorn had been ranked as the best place in the UK
A Yorkshire pub serves a Sunday roast dinner so good you have to wait nearly two months to feast on it.
We reported earlier this month, The Hawthorn, in Haworth, jointly topped a list for the UK’s best roast dinners. Roasts all over were judged by Rate Good Roasts whose team travelled the length and breadth of the country to find out which roast is best.
The Hawthorn is a Georgian gem nestled in the heart of Bronte country. It is a favourite with locals and visitors wandering around the picturesque village once home to the Bronte sisters, Charlotte, Emily and Anne who were famous for their classic novels including Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights and Agnes Grey.

The historic pub was once home to a family of clockmakers, the Barracloughs. If you venture to the Hawthorn you can enjoy a roast selection consisting of roasted shoulder of lamb, chicken supreme and fish among other options.
Children can dine on beef, ham or lamb roasts. For afters, on the menu, you’ll find sticky toffee pudding, bread and butter pudding and poached pear among others.
Over on TripAdvisor, customers rave about the Sunday lunch offerings with lots of five star reviews. We saw Ness1072 post: “Wow, I had another fabulous meal at The Hawthorn, Rachel and the team did a great job as the service was excellent. The food was stunning broccoli, carrots, green beans, leeks with peas and bacon and a gorgeous cauliflower cheese. The lamb and beef both melted in the mouth. We will definitely be back soon.”
While another post reads: “What a lovely Sunday lunch we had, the staff were absolutely amazing and so attentive.” And, perhaps 226Jayneh put it best, they posted: “I can honestly say this is the best meal I have ever had in my 61 years. Truly lovely staff and the food is superb. We will be back for sure.”

Unsurprisingly, with such high praise from punters and critics, bagging a table at the Hawthorn on a Sunday can prove difficult. We’ve tried and the date we can book a table for two, through the venue’s online system, on a Sunday is on Sunday, March 19 at noon. Our preferred slot in each search was 2pm but, if the roasts are that, we’ll take any time.
